I met Rich Fulcher!

Anyone who knows me would know that I’m quite obsessed with The Mighty Boosh and anything/anybody Boosh-related, really. On Friday night I’m going to see An Evening With Eleanor – The Tour Whore. Eleanor (my friend, not the tour whore) and I were just talking about how much we were looking forward to it at the Belgian earlier on this evening, then the topic changed. Anyway, all of a sudden, Eleanor goes “OH MY GOD! KARA!” and points behind me, and I was like “What? What? What?” and it’s none other than Rich Fulcher walking past us. Eleanor was like, “HI!” and he said hi to us, but I was just star-struck really. Bethany, meanwhile, can’t stand the Boosh and has no idea who he is anyway, so was just sitting there while Eleanor and I went a bit crazy. I was like, “I have to say something, I have to go talk to him!” So I did. And I did my crazy fan thing… “Oh, hi, I love you!” is what I said… I’m pretty sure. I really need to stop doing that, haha. I told him how we were going to see him on Friday night and Eleanor came over and chatted too. I can’t even really remember what was said, I was totally in awe. I recall Rich saying something like, “If you’re going to come and see me on Friday, you better already have a ticket!” and then winked and I told him that we bought tickets months ago. Then he said that he better make sure he did a good performance on Friday. Wow. It was amazing, haha. I was shaking afterwards, I don’t think I’ve ever got that excited about meeting someone before! Unfortunately, I didn’t even think about taking a photo, but hopefully we can meet him again on Friday night! WOW! The End.

Dot-point update

I know if I don’t bite the bullet and just smash out a blog entry, I’m never going to do it! No point trying to go into detail of the last (almost) two months, because I’ll never get back up-to-date, so here is a condensed dot-pointed version…

  • My tattoo appointment is booked in! I’ll be getting ink the day before my 21st birthday, how exciting!
  • I saw The Hot Lies final show. I pretty much lived and breathed THL when I was 15-17. They’re an Adelaide local band and I thought they were the most amazing thing since sliced bread! I hadn’t seen them since they released their full-length album, and was a bit disappointed at how much they played off of that in comparison to stuff off their old EPs but it was still a pretty good show and I’m fairly sure I turned into my 15-year-old self for the duration of it!
  • I also saw Muscles for his Lovestruck DJ Tour but was quite disappointed… even though I knew it was a DJ set, I didn’t think he’d play crappy remixes of his own songs! I was hoping for a live performance still!
  • Big Day Out was amazing this year! Best one I’ve been to yet! Highlight of the day was probably Passion Pit (check out some of the video footage I took) and then… get this… watching Peaches from side stage (thank you so much Angela for the sweet VIP hook-ups!) and standing next to PASSION PIT. Oh my gosh! I talked to a couple of the guys briefly and it went something along the lines of, “Omigosh hi, I’m losing my shit right now, I love you guys, I’m standing next to you and I’m watching Peaches side stage!” and I got the response, “I’m losing my shit too, I love Peaches!” It was great!
  • I’ve seen a few more Chris Lloyd and the London Road Poets gigs and I’m still digging them!
  • Went to the beach a few more times (when the weather permitted… although it’s looking like beach days may be over now, until the end of the year anyway!) and had a few catch-up dinner/drink nights with friends.
  • Had a getaway with Hugh for a weekend. We went to Victor Harbour and had a pretty awesome time. It was a much needed holiday for both of us.
  • The Fringe Festival started! The only time Adelaide becomes more of a city than a town, haha. I saw Puppetry of the Penis, have been to the Garden of Unearthly Delights a few times and am hoping to check out some more shows before Adelaide goes back to being a ghost town!
  • Went to Soundwave Festival. They made it a lot bigger this year and I think that lost the intimate feel, that it used to have, almost completely. I didn’t have the best day but saw a few good bands… Jimmy Eat World were amazing. Eleanor and I melted when Daryl Palumbo from Glassjaw made eye contact with us on stage and it was definitely a rock’n'roll experience seeing Eagles of Death Metal. “Can you dig it???”
  • I’m back at uni. Still studying Design. I’m repeating my first year studio which is crap but I guess I’ll get the basic concepts really drilled into me. It’s good to have something to focus on again though and also to have some routine injected back into my week.
  • I’ve also decided I’m having weekly driving lessons until I finally get my P plates! I’m sick of being a 20 year old with a learner’s permit. It’s not cool. I got 7 things ticked off in my log book though so hopefully I’ll have it all done by June (when my L’s expire… yes, I’ve had them for almost 2 years!)

So that’s what’s been going on! I’m too lazy to get on top of uploading my photos to Flickr, but I’ll get there eventually. If you’re friends with me on Facebook, you can see most of the photos from the above events on there. I hope everyone is keeping well and I’ll try to keep in contact soon! :)

:) :) :)

I just got home from a lovely dinner for Tara’s 22nd birthday. I met Tara through work, but she quit about a year ago. Since then we’ve been catching up weekly during beach volleyball season when we play. Our team is called the Hussy McFlurries, we’re pretty amazing. Anyway, some of my favourite people in the world were at this dinner and now I’m in an awesome mood! I had a somewhat pricey, but delicious, chicken caesar salad (nom nom nom), a bit of a bitch about work, a trip down memory lane, a domestic with Andy (Eleanor & I v.s. him… we love him really! - and I’m going to try to show it a bit more!), a game of “would you rather” c/o Ang’s iPhone and yeah… just a jolly good time in general.

It’s been good to have some downtime in the past week. I’ve been catching up on sleep and ransacking my wardrobe and being quite ruthless with what I’m keeping and what I’m ditching. I’ve also got to spend a bit more time with Hugh because he’s on annual leave and we’ve actually had some days/nights free that coincide a bit easier than usual! I renewed my gym membership yesterday as well. After not going to the gym for 3 months, I am in absolute agony after a fairly intense workout yesterday (even though I had to lower my weights and reps for pretty much every machine in my circuit), but let’s hope I can keep up my attendance this year.

I also came to the realisation that 2009 was an awesome year for music! There were so many good releases and new bands I came to love. I voted in the JJJ Hottest 100 the other week for the first time ever. I always listen to the countdown but have never actually participated. It was tough! I had a shortlist of 50-60 different songs. My final choices were:

  • Bertie Blackman – Byrds of Prey
  • The Big Pink – Dominoes
  • Florence & the Machine – Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)
  • Kasabian – Underdog
  • MSTRKRFT – 1000 Cigarettes
  • Mumford & Sons – Sigh No More
  • Passion Pit – Little Secrets
  • Peter, Bjorn & John – Lay It Down
  • Tegan and Sara – Northshore
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll

If you haven’t heard those songs, you should definitely get on it! Took a while to cull my list down, but those were my top 10 for 2009. I’m quite confident that Mumford & Sons will be in the top 5. My bands that didn’t quite make the cut were: Angus and Julia Stone, Art vs. Science, Autokratz, Basement Jaxx, Bluejuice, Death Cab For Cutie, Dizzee Rascal, Empire Of The Sun, Franz Ferdinand, Friendly Fires, Hilltop Hoods, La Roux, Lady Sovereign, Lily Allen, Metric, Phoenix.

Anyway, after wasting some time playing Cafe World and PetVille, getting into some comfier clothes, drinking some irish breakfast tea and writing this entry, it’s time for me to get stuck into some long-overdue work for a client! No sleep for Kara tonight! Just wanted to check in to say that life is absolutely swell right now and I hope that everyone else is having a fabulous beginning to their year! :D

Summer so far…

Family gatherings, cold beverages on warm nights, lazy days in bed with Hugh, supporting friends’ bands (check them out!), days at the beach, playing PS3 (add karawr89 on the PSN), patchy sunburn, watching the sun set over the ocean, dodging dead crabs with Bethany, making time to catch up with old friends, finally getting a bit of time off to catch up on things I’ve neglected these uni “holidays”, beach volleyball, organising 2010 with my new Moleskine diary, doing a massive wardrobe clean-up (I’ll be selling some stuff on eBay soon), basketball, Queer As Folk with Ang, keeping a busy schedule…

I also wanted to share a few videos of bands I’ve seen lately. My boyfriend is the drummer in Chris Lloyd and the London Road Poets (Facebook/MySpace), they’ve only played a couple of gigs but I think they’re really good (I don’t think it’s because I’m biased! :p). They’re an infusion of rock, jazz, blues and pop. Here’s them playing a set at Goodman Crescent for an Adelaide Uni thing for new students…

On Friday night, Hugh and I went to The Gov. I bought him a ticket to see The Beards for Christmas because he really likes them. I was super impressed with the support band, Tijuana Cartel. They were amazing and not like anything I’d heard before. And I thought the lead singer looked a lot like Sid from Skins.

The Beards were hilarious. I’d only listened to them once when Hugh played them to me but they were even funnier live.

I left the gig determined to grow a beard of my own so I could be in the beard club too! Okay, maybe not, but I’m definitely encouraging Hugh to grow his beard back!

All in all, 2010 is off to a great start and I’m really excited about what this year has in store for me!

I’ve decided that 2010 will be the year of documentation for me. I want to take a lot more photos, write in my diary & post blog entries more often and keep track of everything that happens this year. Hopefully I can continue doing this after 2010 so I can look back on my early 20’s in much greater detail.

Anyway, that’s all for now! :)

January 11, 2010

Hello 2010!

I’ve decided to start blogging again this year. I use Tumblr to post random snippets of inspiration that I can look over later, LiveJournal for the personal stuff and this will be the hub for my daily happenings and other things I wish to share with the world.

So far this year, I pretty much feel like I’ve been living at work (although that will change as of today because it’s back to my 3 shifts a week!) but my free time has been occupied by the beach and bands, mostly.

I’m going to upload some photos/videos and post a more in-depth entry a bit later. I just wanted to get this up and running for now :)
